Senoia's downtown is a case study people actually cite. Fifteen years ago the center of town was close to dormant with eight businesses open in it. Georgia's 2008 film incentives changed that: the town doubled as Woodbury and later Alexandria for The Walking Dead from 2011 through 2022, the buildings got renovated, and the count went from eight to around eighty.
What matters commercially is what those eighty actually are. The Main Street district runs to roughly 65 retail and restaurant spaces across two blocks, and only a handful of them sell anything to do with the show. The rest are there because the economy came back: doctors and lawyers, insurance agents, restaurants and shops, the ordinary spread of a working small-town downtown. The Downtown Development Authority runs out of the welcome center at 68 Main Street and meets monthly, which tells you the commercial side of town is organized rather than accidental.
For payments that mix is the whole point. A restaurant on the square is taking a run of card-present tickets across a Saturday, an insurance agent two doors down is taking a much larger payment over the phone or against an invoice, and a shop is doing both depending on the week. Those sit in different places on a processing bill, card present cheapest and keyed most expensive, and a business here is usually paying for some of each without having been shown the split.
