Payment Processing in Mineral Point, WI

A clean, simple setup for galleries, studios, and tasting rooms, with portable readers for the markets and shows where you also sell.

Mineral Point is a Cornish lead-mining town in southwest Wisconsin that turned its limestone cottages and steep High Street into one of the state's densest concentrations of working studios and galleries. You get fair rates, no long contracts, and a real person who actually answers when you call.

What we set up for your shop

We provide merchant services for Mineral Point: credit card processing, POS systems, and the card machines and terminals to run them.

  • Take card payments in person, tap, chip, swipe or straight from a phone, so a High Street gallery or a counter-serve kitchen can ring a visitor up quickly.
  • Set up registers, card readers, and full POS systems matched to how the studios, shops and eating places here actually operate.
  • Handle mobile and on-the-go payments for makers who also sell away from the shop, at art fairs, festivals and markets.

About Mineral Point

Mineral Point exists because of lead. In the 1830s, miners from Cornwall came to southwest Wisconsin for the ore and built stone cottages like the ones they had left, and the hillside where the greatest concentration of them stood is still called Shake Rag Street, from the story that the women shook a rag toward the eastern ridge at mealtimes to call the men down from the diggings. Those cottages very nearly disappeared. In 1935 two locals, Robert Neal and Edgar Hellum, started buying and restoring them, and that work became Pendarvis, now the most complete picture of Cornish mining life left in the state.

The architecture is not a museum district, it is the business district. High Street runs steeply down toward Shake Rag and Brewery Creek, and studios and galleries sit along it beside the hardware store, the bars and the doctor's office. The town holds a long run of nineteenth-century buildings, among them the 1838 Odd Fellows Hall, the 1845 Trinity Episcopal church, the 1849 Washburn and Woodman bank and the 1878 Mineral Springs Brewery. Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts runs hands-on classes in the old buildings at the bottom of the hill, which brings people into town for days at a time rather than hours.

That gives the trade here a particular shape. A lot of the businesses are one or two people selling their own work, takings spike around classes, gallery openings and festival weekends, and a good share of customers are visitors rather than regulars. It is a place where a card reader that is slow or fussy costs a sale, and where the fees on a modest average ticket are worth reading properly.

Card processing for galleries, studios and shops

A Mineral Point business is usually a small one with the owner in it, a studio, a gallery, a shop or a kitchen on High Street, and the money arrives in uneven lumps around gallery nights, festivals, and the weekends when Madison and Chicago visitors come down. What matters is that the card side is simple, that the rate is the rate, and that someone picks up when a reader stops reading mid-Saturday.

Questions about card processing for makers and shops

I run a one-person studio and my sales come in bursts around openings and festivals. Does that work?
Yes, and it is worth telling us that up front. A business with uneven months should be looking hard at the fixed monthly charges as well as the rate, because those are the ones that hurt in a quiet month. We'll go through both on your current statement.
Can I take cards at art fairs and markets away from the shop?
Yes. Mobile and handheld options let you take a card at a fair, a festival stall or a class, and it costs less than keying the number in later.
Are we locked into a multi-year contract if we sign up here in Mineral Point?
No. There are no multi-year contracts, so you're never stuck with us. We aim to keep you by earning it.
How do I know you'll actually save me money over what I pay now?
We show you real numbers side by side against your current statement. If we can't beat what you pay now, we'll tell you straight rather than waste your time.

Security you don't have to think about

Your customers' card information is always protected. We follow PCI DSS security standards, the same rules the major card companies require, so every payment is handled safely.
